Councilmember Parks Appearing in Episode of "The Bold and the Beautiful" to Advocate Animal Adoptions at South L.A. Animal Shelter

Councilmember Bernard C. Parks will appear in an episode arc of “The Bold and The Beautiful” that will follow characters “Liam Spencer” (portrayed by Emmy award-winning actor Scott Clifton) and ”Hope Logan” (portrayed by actress Kim Matula) as they adopt a pet at the South L.A. animal shelter.

Parks brought the shelter to the Western/Slauson industrial area of the Eighth District on a City-owned parcel of land to revitalize an aging industrial park while still preserving the prime commercial real estate for future development.

The 65,000 square-foot facility opened April 4, 2013 and was the final project built under the voter-approved passage of Proposition F, which financed the construction and rehabilitation of fire stations and animal shelters in the city of Los Angeles in 2000. A new annex adjacent to the shelter that will serve as an evacuation area for animals in emergencies (earthquakes, fires) is scheduled to open this year.

This isn’t Parks’ first time in showbiz; he portrayed himself on the sitcom, “Girlfriends” and was named one of People Magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People” in 1998.

The story arc will air on KCBS channel 2 at 12:30 p.m. April 30, May 1, and May 2 (check your local listings).

In June 2013, The Bold and the Beautiful received its eighth Golden Nymph Award at the International TV Audience Awards in the “Telenovela/Soap Opera” category at the Monte Carlo Television Festival. In 2011, The Bold and the Beautiful received its third consecutive Emmy® award for “Outstanding Daytime Drama Series”. In 2010, Guinness World Records® named The Bold and the Beautiful the Most Popular Daytime Soap Currently on TV. The Bold and the Beautiful is the most watched daytime drama series in the world, seen daily by millions of people in over 100 countries.

The Bold and the Beautiful, which will celebrate its 27th anniversary on March 23, 2014, is a Bell-Phillip Television production, broadcast weekdays (1:30-2:00 PM, ET,12:30-1:00 PM PT) on the CBS Television Network.
