Councilmember Parks Welcomes All to the 8th Annual Leimert Park Village Book Fair on Saturday, August 9

Councilmember Bernard C. Parks invites book lovers, the literarily curious, and everyone in between to the 8th annual Leimert Park Village Book Fair (LPVBF) on Saturday, August 9. Councilmember Parks, an advocate for the arts and education, founded the free event to promote literacy and provide a welcoming and entertaining venue for families to learn and explore various prose.

The event will feature children’s activities, book signings, writing and panel workshops, a Nescafe sponsored book and coffee lounge, and more. This year’s theme is, “1970-1979: The Decade of Self-Expression”. The 2014 Legacy Award Honorees include singer and songwriter Stevie Wonder, trailblazing screenwriter Eric Monte whose worked on such 70s sitcom staples as “Good Times” and “All in the Family”), and actress and community activist Marla Gibbs of “The Jeffersons”. Honorees will be celebrated for their contributions to this decade of cultural exploration. Tributes to Dr. Maya Angelou and Activist and Actress Ruby Dee will also take place.

For seven years, the LPVBF took place in the back lot of the Vision Theater in Leimert Park. This year’s move to the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza will accommodate a larger crowd as the event’s popularity has grown exponentially.
